Stanley's tan leather fold-over "The Revised and Improved Collector's Tax Book....Adapted to the Revised Statutes of 1883", by W. W. Bolster, Published Portland: W. H. Stevens & Company, No. 193 Middle Street. Entries from 1890-1892 with categories for real estate, personal property, poll tax, highway tax, a section on school district tax. With three loose handwritten pages inserted. One is list of children for Hannah Lopaus(?) who moved to Mount Desert July 12th 1799 and had 10 children and includes list of 9 children born to Hannah's daughter Nancy Lopauss Richardson Clark, one of whom was Meltiah P. Richardson (spouse of Carrie Stanley Richardson). The second loose page is a petition for a fish weir at Thrumcap for Enoch B. Stanley and W.D.(?) Stanley in January 1891. The third loose page is Permission for a fish weir with full description dated Feb. 7, 1891. (B) Maroon fold-over wallet (empty). In 2018, Rosie Silvers discoverd this collection of early Hadlock papers at Wikhegan Books in Northeast Harbor, Maine. Several generous islanders from Great Cranberry and Little Cranberry (Islesford) purchased this collection which now resides at GCIHS, catalogued as 2018.419.2285 through 2289. All documents except the advertisements and bill heads referred to in 2018.419.2288 have been scanned. (Descriptions for this collection were provided by Joanne Fuerst, Wikhegan Books. | Photographs. Digital copies of 41 color slides made in April 2015. They were loaned to Phil Whitney by Charles 'Chip' Sheppard following Phil Whitney's interview of him in Pennsylvania December 2014. Some slides are undated and some noted in ballpoint pen as years: 1947, 1948, 1950 and 1952. An e-mail from Melen Boothby identified Slide 296, taken in August of 1950, as "shot from my grandparents' house near Thrumcap and shows the wreck of a Canadian lumber schooner that ran aground during a storm in the '30s. Apparently people on the island were told to help themselves to the lumber as the ship wasn't going anywhere!" (Not sure if this means 1830s or 1930s?) Slides were scanned and returned to donor. Scenery, family and friends: Carl and Winston Sheppard's boat Kiri III, a B class Boat (slide 379); Emerson Ham (slide 38); fishing weir (slide 386); fishing, picnic, old cars, docks, and a blue lobster. |

| Photographs. Scans of seven large-format color slides taken by Michael Macfarlan in 1955. Two (F-G) are of the Lewis Stanley boathouses on GCI. Five are of the 1,000 lb. Carcharodon carcharias "man-eater" shark harpooned by Capt. Lyndon "Tud" Bunker and John L. Saltonstall aboard his 32-foot cabin cruiser, Thetis, in August of 1955. According to newspaper articles (see items 1000.28.400-406), the shark rammed a hole below the waterline about three feet from the bow, forcing the Captain to land the boat on Bakers Island where Macfarlan took these photos. The shark was shot and killed by a boat coming to their rescue. The shark was identified by one of its teeth by Henry B. Bigelow of the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard College in September 1955. The photographs show John Saltonstall in blue jacket and white cap with Tud Bunker (tan pants) and Dorothy Macfarlan (photographer's mother) in white with white hat on Bakers Island with the boat and the shark. |

| Photos. Collection of 19 small black and white, and family photos of Winslow Bunker (1912-1992) and family. Winslow was the son of Percy Bunker; he was grandson of Willis Bunker and Rena Stanley Bunker. Winslow married M. Rosalee (Rosie) (1919-1967). He served in WWII. People and places in several of the photos have been identified including: Winslow and Rosie Bunker, their house, Percy Bunker, Winslow's lobster boat, his dock, his dog Gus and cat Smokey. Winslow's dock was on The Pool on GCI near the present Richman house. Richmans bought Winslow's house. (See 2016.323.2096 for Winslow Bunker's boat "Wild Rose.) |
