| The Old Homestead, a poem by E.T. Preble., reminisces about the Preble house on GCI and all the lives now past. The author of the poem is most likely Elmenia Thompson Spurling, b. 19 Aug 1840, who married first Ezra Carroll, then William Henry Preble. Elmenia had four children by Preble, one being Abby Lizzie Preble, b. 25 Sep 1865, d. 24 Dec 1901 in Chicago. (Statement at bottom of poem connects author to GCI Preble house.) | Description: The Old Homestead, a poem by E.T. Preble., reminisces about the Preble house on GCI and all the lives now past.
